Sea & Sky – Painting Seascapes with Soft Pastels

Date: Sunday 26th July 2026

Time: 1pm till 4pm

Where: The Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine

This relaxed soft pastel workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those who have some experience with the medium and want to develop their skills further. You’ll be guided through key techniques while also having the freedom to experiment and build confidence in your own style.  

Soft pastels are a wonderfully versatile medium, slowing you to blend, layer and create rich textures. Whether you’re new to soft pastels or already familiar with them, you’ll have the opportunity to explore approaches to colour, mark making and composition.

During the session you’ll work on pastel matt to create your own seascape. Using reference photos or your own inspiration, you’ll learn how to capture the movement of the sea and the atmosphere of the sky, with plenty of support and encouragement throughout.
